What is Singapore Mathematics?

The Singapore Mathematics curriculum adopts a spiral approach with a strong emphasis on problem solving. This focus helps students build a strong foundation in mathematics and develops their thinking skills, which are relevant in the 21st century.

Attitudes refer to beliefs about mathematics and its usefulness, interest and enjoyment in learning mathematics, appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, confidence in using mathematics, and perseverance in solving a problem.
Mathematical skills refer to numerical calculation, algebraic manipulation, spatial visualisation, data analysis, measurement, use of mathematical tools and estimation.
Metacognition refers to the awareness of, and ability to control, one’s thinking process, specifically to select and use problem-solving strategies.
Mathematical concepts can be broadly grouped into numerical, algebraic, geometric, statistical, probabilistic and analytical concepts.
Mathematical processes include reasoning, communication and connections, applications and modelling, thinking skills and heuristics.
